Dog-friendly cottages in the New Forest
Dog-friendly cottages, lodges and hotels in the New Forest, from Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst and Burley to Beaulieu, Lymington, Ringwood and Fordingbridge, with what to check before you book.
The New Forest is ideal for a break with a dog: open heath and woodland walks start from almost every village, and the coast is a short drive away.
This guide gathers dog-friendly places to stay by area, from single cottages to hotels with dog-friendly rooms and a holiday park where dogs are allowed in every type of accommodation. Ponies, cattle, pigs and deer roam freely, so keep dogs close on forest walks, and read each listing's dog rules before you book.
What to check before you book
- How many dogs? Many places take one or two; agencies set rules per cottage, so check each listing.
- Is there a pet fee? Charges are usually per dog, per night or per stay.
- Which rooms? Hotels and inns often keep dogs to set bedrooms and out of the main restaurant.
- Is the garden fully enclosed? "Garden" doesn't always mean dog-proof; ask if your dog is an escape artist.
- Livestock on the doorstep? Many forest cottages open straight onto land grazed by ponies and cattle, so plan for lead walking.
