Dog-friendly South Downs
The South Downs is England's newest national park, a long ridge of chalk downland running from Winchester to Eastbourne. The South Downs Way follows it for 100 miles, and below the scarp sit flint villages with some of the oldest pubs in the south.

It's superb dog country: open grassland, beech hangers and river valleys, all within easy reach of London and the south coast. Much of the high downland is grazed by sheep and cattle, so expect to put the lead on, and bring a towel for the chalk mud in winter.
