Bibury is one of the most visited villages in the Cotswolds, and this route gives you the famous view without the coach-party crowds at the start. It links Bibury with its quieter neighbour Coln St Aldwyns through fields and along the River Coln.
It's one of the Cotswolds National Landscape's "Miles Without Stiles" routes, so you'll meet gates rather than stiles: ideal for older dogs or anyone who'd rather not lift a spaniel over a fence. On the way you pass Arlington Row, built as a wool store around 1380 and later turned into weavers' cottages.
Terrain
- Fields, farm tracks and riverside paths, with gates instead of stiles.
- Some ups and downs: about 150 m of climbing in total.
- A short stretch on quiet village roads.
With your dog
- No stiles anywhere on the route.
- The route crosses farmland, so keep dogs under close control and on a lead near livestock.
- Bibury gets very busy in summer: a lead is kind to everyone around Arlington Row and the trout farm.
The pub at the end
The New Inn
The New Inn keeps dog beds in every room of the bar and restaurant, water bowls, and a jar of treats on the bar.
